The Hillvale Photo Trophy is a photo prize and exhibition run by Hillvale Gallery and Hillvale Photo open to everyone, everywhere. Each of the artworks submitted will be printed and displayed in a salon-style exhibition at Hillvale Gallery. During the opening night celebration on Friday 5 April, we'll be awarding three awards as picked by our judges: a first prize of $1500 cash for the most outstanding image; a second prize sponsored by Thames and Hudson valued at $500; and a third prize TBC. There will also be 1 x $500 prize as voted by you for the People's Choice. The most outstanding image winner will receive a limited edition solid bronze custom Hillvale Photo Trophy.
This fundraising photo competition will directly contribute funds towards artist fees and gallery costs for the year's programming at Hillvale Gallery. Entries can include all forms of analogue and digital photography and alternative methods of lens-based image making.
Hillvale Gallery has had a longstanding desire to organise a photography-based competition as a means of fundraising for our year of programming to directly support artists through paying artist fees, exhibition development, and additional space builds to bring ideas to life. This competition will not only provide a platform for emerging photographers to showcase their work but also contribute towards building a sustainable arts community by providing necessary resources for artists to thrive.
The Hillvale Photo Trophy serves as a means to continue pursuing our passion for photography and providing a space for photographic and lens-based image makers to experiment with their practice in an accessible, generous, and open environment. By offering paid opportunities for artists to showcase their work in new and innovative ways, we hope to foster a vibrant and supportive community while furthering the boundaries of photographic art.
